FAQ

Q. Do I need experience or some minimum level of fitness?

A. No. Our workouts and exercises scale to any level. We've had everyone from eighty-five-year-old grandmothers to morbidly obese people, and they've all been fine. You will too.

Q. I have/had an injury. Can I still do CrossFit?

A. Many of our members have successfully used CrossFit to rehabilitate from minor injuries. Because people continue to move, work, and play in the real world regardless of injury history, we believe the best route to long-term health is to learn perfect form on functional movements, then to slowly build strength in those movements, rather than to avoid them altogether. At the same time, our instructors are always happy to work with you to scale and substitute exercises, to tailor workouts to your abilities. That said, we cannot offer you specific medical advice, and advise that you consult your physician before starting this (or any other) exercise program.

Q. How do I start?

Come on down for a free intro class, to get a taste of CrossFit workouts and see if CrossFit Fortify might be a good fit for you.

Q. The free intro class was great, how do I join as a member?

A. First you must complete CrossFit 101.

Q. I'm really fit and would like to skip the beginners' class and come to the Workout of the Day (WOD) class, can I do that?

A. No. There are no drop-ins to the WOD classes without current CrossFit experience/participation. You must complete our two-week-long CrossFit 101 program before being allowed to take WOD classes.

Q. But what if I'm really, really fit?

A. No means no. If you are really, really fit, we can scale up the workouts in the Intro and 101 classes for you. We promise we can leave you lying on the floor, sore and gasping, after even an Intro class.

Q. I've been CrossFitting for so long that I do kipping pullups in my sleep. Can I please come to a WOD class?

A. We welcome experienced CrossFitters. Just check our class schedule and come in for a WOD class. Be sure to let your instructor know your level of experience with CrossFit-style training if you have any limitations or are still at a beginner level. Please note that it's $20 to drop in. (If paying upon arrival for class, cash or check.)

Q. I just relocated, but I've been CrossFitting so long that I named my kids "Fran" and "Helen". Can I please come to a WOD class?

A. We'll need to assess your CrossFit abilities and whether or not you need to complete the CrossFit 101. Unless you've trained extensively at another affiliate and gone through a foundations program there (to learn all the CrossFit movements thoroughly and effectively), chances are you'll be required by us to go through our intro courses. To discuss further, please contact us if you are in this situation.

Q. What does CrossFit 101 or Crash Course cover?

A. Bodyweight exercises. The slow lifts: Squats, Deadlift and Press. Metabolic Conditioning (a.k.a. "MetCon"), Olympic lifting: Clean, Jerk, Snatch. Foundational Movements.

Q. What if I don't want to join CrossFit Fortify but would prefer to strictly work with one of your trainers one-on-one?

A. You are more than welcome to do so. Please refer to the pricing page for information on 1-1 sessions. Contact us via email to set up an appointment.

Q. Do you take credit cards, cash, and personal checks?

A. Yes, we accept cash, personal checks, MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover.

Q. Can I have a receipt?

A. Yes you can--printed, emailed or both.

Q. Do you offer discounted membership to full-time students, active military, police officers, and firefighters?

A. Yes we do. Valid and current ID must be presented.

Q. Can I just come to the box and work out on my own?

A. No. We are more like a dojo than a typical commercial gym. We offer classes and one-on-one sessions, where people work out under trainer supervision,

Q. How do I sign up?

A. Email to sign up for a free intro class or to sign up for CrossFit 101. If you have any questions email or call.
