4 Quick Tips for Active Recovery After a CrossFit Workout

By: CrossFit Fortify
A tough workout can leave you feeling sore and tired. Whether you are into CrossFit or like to hit the gym once a week, it is important to let your body recuperate after a day of exercising. If you do not let your muscles recover, then you risk having negative effects on performance. Active recovery is more beneficial for your body than simply resting. Making active recovery a part of your CrossFit health can speed up the recovery process in between workouts. Here are four tips for the best way to recover.

1. Active Cooldown

Nothing feels better than to sit down and rest after an exhausting workout. However, staying active can help you recover better. The purpose of an active cooldown is to use about half of your maximum effort, and it can last for several minutes. Some activities you can do are:

  • Light jogging
  • A short walk
  • Going easy on a stationary bike

2. Swimming

Swimming is a great activity that is easy on your joints after doing CrossFit. Studies have shown that swimming can lead to better exercise performance the following day. Some researchers believe the water can reduce inflammation in the joints. You should plan a session in the pool to help your muscles recover.

3. Stretching

Another option to help you recover after a workout is to do some stretches. Not only is it recommended that you stretch before exercising, but you should also do it in between workouts. Stretch slowly instead of doing something too demanding. It can improve flexibility and lowers inflammation. One form of stretching is yoga. Be sure to have a mat to make it easier on your joints. You should do yoga at least once a week for thirty minutes.

4. Self-Myofascial Release

Myofascial release can be done with:

  •  A foam roller
  • A massage ball
  • A massage stick
  • Vibrational therapy

One study shows that foam rolling reduced the negative effects of delayed-onset muscle soreness. Twenty minutes of foam rolling after exercising can ease tenderness in your muscles. Myofascial release reduces muscle pain and improves flexibility.

Each individual is different, so you will need to plan a post-workout routine that works for you. Our CrossFit workout  can provide you with the best CrossFit results for a stronger, healthier body. If you are thinking about joining CrossFit in Brazoria County, reach out to us today.
